Well, well, well... the semestre is over, and this blog wasn't used as I wanted! It seems classes started a few days ago! You all know Ms. Mitchell was taken ill at the very beginning of the school year and Zu(Ms. Sa) and I(Ms. Lima) had to teach more groups than we had planed to. I have to confess it's been a very difficult term, but it's almost over now: the seccond sitting and recuperation exams will be held tomorrow and we'll all hopefully have a great term starting on 4 August.

PS: We have found "Ina"!!! She'd been kidnapped!!!

Estou sentindo muito a falta dela. Ela dormia comigo na minha cama e me seguia o tempo todo. Tenho 7 anos e é muito dificil viver sem ela. Peça ajuda para os seus amigos também. Espero que vocês nunca passem por isso, porque só quem tem amor numa lindinha destas e ela some e alguém pega nossa cachorrinha sabe a dor que a gente sente. Mas tenho fé que encontraremos a Iná. Estou rezando. Me ajude e vamos fazer uma corrente. Muito obrigada mesmo por sua ajuda.

Valentine's day story:

According to church tradition, St. Valentine was a priest near Rome in about the year 270 A.D. During this time, Rome was ruled by an emperor named Claudius. Claudius was having trouble getting married men to join his army because they were more emotionally attached to their families and, thus, they wouldn’t volunteer to join the army because they did not want to leave their wives and families. So Claudius issued an edict forbidding marriage. Most people thought this law was cruel. Valentine, a bishop, did not support the new law, and seeing the trauma of young lovers, he met them and kept performing marriage ceremonies secretly. Obviously, at some point Claudius heard about this “friend of lovers”. One night, Valentine was caught and thrown in jail. The emperor, impressed with the young priest’s dignity and conviction, attempted to convert him to believing in the Roman gods to save him from certain execution. Valentine refused to recognize Roman gods and even tried to convert the emperor to Christianity. The result of the conflict was that on February 14, 270 A.D., Valentine was executed.

While Valentine was in prison awaiting his fate, many young people came to visit him. One was the blind daughter of his jailor, Asterius. Asterius begged him to heal his daughter. Through his faith, Valentine miraculously restored the sight of Asterius’ daughter. On the day of his execution, Valentine wrote a farewell note to the daughter signed “Love from your Valentine”, a phrase that lived ever after.

From your Valentine: Valentine, thus, became a Patron Saint and the spiritual overseer of an annual festival. The festival involved young Romans offering to women they admired, and wished to court, handwritten greetings of affection on February 14th, the day of Valentine’s execution. So the greeting cards acquired St. Valentine’s name. The Valentine’s Day card spread with Christianity and is now celebrated in many parts of the world.

Welcome back!!! We hope you've had a wonderful holiday and are now eager to learn as much as you can! Our term has begun,and we have been busier than ever! Classes started on Thurday, 7 February and Alyson (Ms. Mitchell) was taken ill the following day. She was in hospital for three days and is now recovering at home. We hope she'll feel 100% soon. Have a quick recovery, Alyson. We miss u!

Hey guys. How've you been?

I miss you all so much. For those who don't know it, I studied at B.A. English School for 5 years and then moved on to also teach there before I moved to Canada. Studying there was a great experience and prepared me for life here in huge ways.

Here's a picture of my university, St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Unfortunately, right now the weather isn't as nice as in the pic and and you can see snow (and huge ice pellets) everywhere.

I hope all is well with everybody at B.A.! I'll be down there in June to visit ;)
